Hidden deep within Dorrigo National Park, Rosewood Canyon is a spectacular, highly aquatic canyon carved into the rainforest of the Dorrigo Escarpment.

Rosewood is a significant step up from our introductory trips and takes the adventure to another level. Bigger abseils, more technical terrain and a more committing environment make for a longer, more demanding day. It’s best suited to people with previous canyoning or outdoor experience, or fit and capable participants with a genuine appetite for adventure.

Our day begins on foot, following the walking track towards Coachwood Falls before leaving the track behind, gearing up and entering Rosewood Canyon.

From here, the adventure builds quickly. We swim, wade and scramble downstream through beautiful rainforest until the creek begins to drop away into the gorge. The first major obstacle a 7m jump marks the beginning of the more committing section of the canyon, Beyond this point, there is no turning back.

Rosewood drops rapidly through the Dorrigo Escarpment, with one waterfall following another. We abseil, traverse, scramble, swim and jump our way through a seemingly endless series of waterfalls and deep pools.

Then comes the finale.

The creek reaches the edge of the escarpment and disappears over the spectacular Red Cedar Falls. Our final descent is an unforgettable 45-metre abseil through the waterfall. At the base stands the giant red cedar that gives the falls its name, towering above the creek as we complete our descent.

Many people have stood below Red Cedar Falls and looked up.

Few have ever seen what lies hidden above.
